After making His covenantal promises, God said, "This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. Male circumcision is the removal of the foreskin of the genital organ used in sexual reproduction. The sign or special meaning for this surgical operation in the Old Testament is mentioned in Genesis, chapter 17, when God repeats his covenant of solidarity with Abraham and his descendants and explains his demands. Circumcision is the cutting away of the foreskin of the penis. It was originally a rite of passage to test the courage of young men in tribal societies. It became common among the Israelites of the Bible.
